FAQ
Frequently asked questions from our applicants.
1. How and where can I register?
2. When should I apply?
Regardless of our registration deadlines, we recommend applying as early as possible.
3. What requirements must be met to participate?
- Ages between 14 and 19 years
- Healthy physical condition
- Language skills: desirable but not required
- Applicants should be motivated, adaptable and eager to learn. ;-)
4. Are knowledge of Spanish required?
No. Knowledge of Spanish is not a requirement. You don't have to have taken Spanish at school either. However, we strongly recommend taking a language course before departure.
5. How do I apply for a specific program?
During the application phase, the applicant should inform our contact person that they would like to apply for a specific program in Spain. Online application
6. What happens after I submit the registration?
Once we have received your registration, we will contact you and make an appointment for a telephone or video call. This way we can get to know you and explain all the next steps.
7. How is payment made?
The first deposit is made after submitting the registration (€1000+ price of the optional Barcelona orientation). The second payment is due when announcing the host family (€1.500). The remaining program price is then paid in monthly installments once the exchange student is in Spain.
8. Can I request a region for my stay in Spain?
Yes.
9. How long after registration do I have to wait for my host family's information?
If you arrive in September, the host families will normally be sent between March and July; if you arrive at the end of January/beginning of February, between September and December.
10. Is there any preparation for an exchange year?
Yes, we organize a optional orientation weekend at the beginning of the stay Orientation course. The preparation always takes place in Barcelona.
11. Is there help on site?
Yes. Our local coordinators are responsible for finding host families and schools. They also support the students and host families throughout their stay. InterKultur student exchange ONLY places exchange students where a local coordinator is on site.
12. Are there family changes?
If conflicts arise between the host family and the exchange student that cannot be resolved, a host family change might be the best option. This is not a TABOO for InterKultur student exchanges. Sometimes, there are no similarities or the chemistry isn't right at all. In such situations, and before the situation escalates, a family change is carried out.
13. What total costs will I incur?
Additionally to the Program price you will have to cover flight costs, pocket money, possible costs for textbooks, telephone costs and, if applicable, school fees (only if private or semi-private school is desired), as well as the costs for our preparatory seminar in Barcelona (optional).
